One thing that makes us unique here at Universal Media is that our employees are highly involved with the community and extra-curricular activities. Being involved in the community is a very important part of working here and we take full advantage of the opportunities that are given to us.
This past spring I was fortunate enough to be an assistant coach for the baseball team at York College. This was a very challenging task but one that I was looking forward to. Being not only a coach but a mentor to players that are close to your age was very difficult. However, I was fortunate enough to be a part of a very mature group of players that treated me as a coach rather than someone who was around the same age as them. This made the transition much easier.
Also, one thing that helped earn a lot of respect was having an experienced background coming out of a Division 1 program in the Big 12 conference at West Virginia University. Having a great group of coaches that gave me a tremendous experience not only as a player but as a person as well was very impactful to becoming a coach after school. Taking those values and lessons that were taught to me in school and give my players not only the same, but better experiences than I had.
Now that the coaching has ended for the year I get to turn my attention to the local summer league. This league has been around since the early 1900’s and is located throughout York County. Being able to keep playing is a great experience especially when you get to play for a team that has a great fan base. I have been playing for the Mt. Wolf Wolves for the past 9 years and each year gets better than the next. There is a sense of pride when you get to represent your town and play against another. I’m originally from Mt. Wolf and have been going to Wolves games as long as I could remember.
Last year was the best year we have had in quite some time. We finished as Regular Season, Playoff, County Champions, and finished 3rd in our end of the year tournament which features teams from across the Mid-Atlantic. We ended the year with a total record of 41-7 and were able to claim the Pitcher of the Year, Hitter of the Year, Young Player Award, and Most Valuable Player. We are really looking forward to our team for this year and can’t wait to get started.
